Mycological Expedition

My first morel of the season!

Yesterday Ben, Mario and Jose found the first morels while they were out fencing. We'd looked a few days ago to no avail at one of our regular spots. This afternoon we took Ben's dad and Annalee out to look again and we found a few, but mostly they were pretty small still so we left a lot of them. We got enough together with yesterday's haul to have them as a side for dinner and they were delectable. There were a lot of other questionable mushrooms including the very bright orange ones pictured above that were shaped like cups and only about as big around as a nickel. There were other black ones that looked like bits of dried up rubber tires. The trillium was out all over the place and the skunk cabbages are coming up. It was a beautiful day and then we discovered we were locked out of the truck. Luckily Ben has some skills in the busting into locked cars arena, so it didn't take too long for us to get out of our predicament.
