Backwards Day

Alice is very opinionated about what she wants to wear and is starting to put her clothes on by herself. This day she really wanted her jeans, but didn't manage to get anything on quite right. She had also taken off her diaper and put on her favorite monkey panties, but then proceeded to wet right through everything after about 40 minutes. She understands and can communicate about the potty, but her favorite word to communicate is "No." So we're working on that, but progress is slow. She loves the colors pink and purple and sparkly things. Mumsy got her a pair of sequined pink ballet flats for a reward once she uses the potty a few days in a row. We'll see....

Another battle we have is getting her hair done. Alice has a pretty tender head and I try to be gentle, but she's generally opposed to barrettes and hairties. I was trying pretty hard until the other day when I told her, "It's going to look so beautiful." She responded, "Mommy, I don't want to be beautiful, I just want to be happy." You just can't argue with wisdom like that. I hope our society doesn't teach her otherwise in the next 20 years.
