The Monarch, my Grandmother's Stove

We have my Grandmother Agnes Bettis's Monarch in our kitchen. It thought it was really in need of a spit shine. After six hours I realized it needed a little more. It's still not perfect, but much better. It's a great woodstove and it makes me happy that it's still getting used for some cooking and warming the kitchen. The oven thermometer doesn't work so we put one in there and we've gotten above 300 degrees, but nothing consistent enough for baking bread. We do use the cooktop for simple things like pancakes or bacon, warming water and the like. It's great for just keeping things warm and warming plates too. I cleaned the Maytag the same day... it only took 15 minutes!
